A Pre-Conference to:

April 10, 2005
Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers

On April 10, 2005, VeriSign hosted the inaugural EPC Developers Conference in Chicago.  Held in partnership with RFID Journal LIVE! 2005, the EPC DevCon was the first-ever developers conference focused on the identification and development of applications utilizing the Electronic Product Code (EPC) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies.

Nearly 100 developers and supply chain executives gathered to discuss how these technologies can be applied to practical, real-world solutions for inventory, asset and supply chain management solutions.

Highlights from the day included:

  • Updates on the ongoing RFID projects of major retailers and suppliers.  Each provided insight into how these companies are identifying business processes that will drive efficiencies in their supply chains.
  • Technical and business panels of leading practitioners in developing requirements for EPC/RFID application development.
  • Discussions on early ROI opportunities through Asset Management
  • EPC/RFID data security through a secure framework providing authentication, encryption and access controls
  • Direction on implementation of EPCglobal Network core components (e.g.ONS)
  • Announcement of the EPC Application Development Contest, which will highlight the best emerging ideas that use EPC-related product movement data to solve real-world business challenges. Winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize, publicity at the EPCglobal US Conference, and the opportunity to give private presentations to leading venture capital firms, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Bessemer Venture Partners.

All presentations from EPC DevCon 2005 are available (in PDF) on the Agenda page.
